No Filter Please - No Plastic Filter

Single-Use Plastics Directive

This is your chance to tell the European Commission to ban all cigarette filters!

Single-use plastic products are suffocating our oceans. They are a direct threat to marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and human health. In 2019, the European Commission introduced the Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) to tackle this crisis and protect our coastlines and cities. While the directive successfully banned many of the most littered items (cutlery, straws, and more), it didn’t include a ban on cigarette filters. Despite being one of the most frequently found litter on our beaches, cities and in nature, they remain exempt from the ban.

The time for change is now. The SUPD is being evaluated, and the European Commission is listening. This is our opportunity to demand an improved directive that includes a total ban on cigarette filters.

How to participate

You can provide input in two ways:

1) Call for Evidence (text)

Follow our instructions. Share a text of 4000 characters maximum and, if you wish, add a file with more information. The more evidence (the more data and sources), the stronger. Use our input as inspiration (don’t forget to read our the attachment).

2) Public Consultation (questionnaire)

Checkout our instruction video or directly download our written manual. Find more information on our website.

Filling in the questionnaire is even stronger than providing input to the Call for Evidence. Going through 35 questions can be complex though, that’s why we’ve added all the answers to our manual already. You just have to copy them. It will take 15-20 minutes to complete the form, but it might be the best 15-20 minutes you will spend for a cleaner planet!

DEADLINE: March 17th, 2026. Let’s make our voices heard!
