Worldwide action day
On No Butts Day – Saturday July 5th, 2025 – people everywhere around the world join forces for the largest plastic cigarette filter action on the planet. Coordinated by the Dutch Plastic Cigarette Butt Collective, thousands of volunteers collect hundreds of thousands of plastic cigarette filters from their local streets, parks, and waterways. The event originated in The Netherlands in 2019, and grew into an international action.
No Butts Day is an effective way to raise awareness about the environmental damage caused by cigarette filter litter. Despite what the tobacco industry claims, this problem can’t simply be cleaned up. The only real solution is to ban plastic cigarette filters.
You can participate by organising your own event or by joining an existing one.
Register your cleanup 2025
Action
- Download instructions (EN/NL/DE)
- Participate alone or with a group
- Invite local, regional or national media (if you want!)
- Bring gloves and a bucket (or something)
- Collect cigarette butts on July 5th, or in the week before
- Collect cigarette butts as you long as you want
Register your event
- Register a private or public event on the event-page
- Your event will be published on the world map
- People can join your public event by using the details you provide
- Coordinator Bernadette will send instructions on how to share your results with us!
Share your results
- Count the number of cigarette butts collected
- Share photos and videos on your channels with hashtags: #NoButtsDay #NoPlasticFilter
- Share # of participants and # of butts collected with Bernadette (you will receive an email with further instructions)
Global press release
- On July 6th we will send out a global press release in different languages (EN/FR/SP/DU/DE) with the total number of locations and people that participated, the total number of cigarette butts collected and our joint global call for a ban!
- Share the press release with your national, regional and/or local media!
